MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently benefit from a 20p however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been consulting with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of little services in Cornwall presently generate income from used cooking oil".

He added: "In order to be able to get this kind of market going it does require just a bit of lift which can be found in the form of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a blend of conventional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
